feeling good

I feel good that I got everything on my list for yesterday done except the grocery shopping and I'm off to do that this morning.

The first photo is the top that I was doing. It is a practice applique project. Each little lassie is different...I was trying out different techniques to see what worked for me. The top is made entirely from scraps except for the blue border which was a piece of fabric from my stash! I learned a lot from the project and now feel I am ready to tackle another project.

The next photo shows the quilt I finished...even to the label on the back! The focus fabrics are from scraps bought at our guild auction about a year ago. The white and black are from my stash. I only bought the batik for the settings and border and the backing. My challenge was to make a sampler quilt using only squares and half sqaure triangles for the blocks.

a blogger's anniversary

2 put a binding on a quilt that I picked up at the quilter's last Friday
3 wrap my secret sister gift for Monday
4 pack for Tuesday's trip to Lancaster
5 clean up my quilting room (It's a mess)
6 pay bills....UGHHH
7 grocery shop

maybe I'm overly ambitious today.

not doin much quilting....

but I've been very busy. Last week I worked four days...I usually only work 2 or 3...oh, my aching feet and legs....

Over the weekend my hubby was in a children's theater play and of course I go to the performances. The theater company has several of these dessert theaters for children a year. After the performance, the children get treats then get to meet the actors and get autographs...the kids really like it.

After the Sunday performance, we drove to my son's and then got up early Monday morning and took the train for a day trip into Washington, DC where we visited the Smithsonian. - Air and Space Museum and American History Museum. After we got home, hubby pointed out that the American History Museum has a quilt display...if we had only known when we were there...that will definitely be on our list for the next trip. We hadn't been to DC since our children were little...some things have definitely changed. Now that we are closer, we will certainly go again.

(On my way to my son's we did stop at JoAnne Fabric where I bought some fabric...couldn't go by without buying)

Back home Tuesday morning then work Tuesday evening.

This morning was my arthritis water therapy class at the Y.. I came home, sewed a little, then fell asleep across the bed.

I am looking forward to next week which will be devoted to quilting. Friends and I are going for a quilt retreat that we organized to Lancaster, PA. I've already started packing!!!

bees a buzzin

Wow, yesterday was a busy day...busy as a bee. My quilting bee met here. What fun. There were six of us. What fun to see what everyone else is doing...I had my camera out, ready to go but we were having such fun that I forgot to take pictures!!

So instead, I'm posting pictures of the quilts I entered in the quilt show. I didn't win any ribbons but I was really pleased with the judge's comments. Very complimentary and the comments for improvement were helpful....little things I didn't think of. So many people have told me that it is a good thing to have your quilts judged. I believe them now. I was much more critical of my own work than the judge!

a finished project

A while ago I blogged about the quilt my 7 year old granddaughter was making with me. I finally got it quilted and ready to mail to her. Here it is. It is about 36x36.

Now I am back to doing some things for me. Working on my little girls from a previous post. I made 8 girls but now I am going to make 8 more. As I go along, I am learning some applique tricks that will certainly be used when I decide to do a more complicated blocks. One thing I have determined is that the fabric I am using for the shoes is too coarse -it doesn't turn under well. I am also dreaming up more quilts to do. I just have to dream up the time!!

I really have to get a hanging strip on one of the quilts I am putting in the Kent/Sussex quilt show this coming weekend! I never put a quilt in a show before and so I am a little nervous.

Well, less blogging, more sewing....

friends.....

My friends from PA visited us for a few days. It was so great to have them come to visit. We went to a quilt guild meeting on Monday....Rachael (in purple) has decided to try quilting and actually bought some fabric to start her stash while she was here! What fun. She has bought me many quilt books as gifts and wanted to buy some quilts from me...guess she figured she'd better start quilting herself.

October already!

I've been doing a little applique...not my strongest talent...but I love the "Sunbonnet Sue" blocks so I am making these to use up many of my scraps. I decided to make each one a little different...for a very special reason...I believe every young girl should be herself...not worry about the latest fads, etc. but be a strong individual....so you may notice that some of the "outfits" might have parts that may clash...thier feet aren't exactly in the same positions (they are marching to different drummers)...etc. It has been fun to choose the fabric and body positions.

I haven't quite decided how I will put the blocks together for a final project. Each block will have a finished size of 9". I probably won't get to work on them much this weekend because we are having company but I am amazed at how quick they are to do.
