Oranges...not the fruit

Oranges and yellows are supposed to be two of the hardest fabrics to quilt with...for some reason I have gotten into an orange phase...which follows my purple phase ....which follows my blue phase...get the idea?

Anyway, I have been doing a lot with orange lately. I even got my hubby to paint the bathroom orange. Here is a little wall hanging I whipped up for the bathroom. I am working on a couple of other little ones now, too.
I have also been dealing with browns and tans...The bed quilt I am working on now has golds, tans, greens, reds, and blacks...
One time I attended a workshop conducted by an art therapist who said that you could tell a child's mood by the colors the child chose...hmmm... what do my color choices say about me?
I don't know how much stock to put into the therapist's knowledge though. She gave a big speech about children who do not put curtains on their windows in their pictures...they want people to look inside them...If my kids were to have drawn pictures at that time, they might have had windows with no curtains. We lived on the edge of town and had no curtains on our kitchen and dining room windows. The windows were two stories high and had a great view of the woods and river. She also said that kids who draw airplanes dropping bombs have some inner angers which they are having trouble expressing...what third or fourth grade boy hasn't done that kind of a picture? So much for theories.
I did read once that colors do impact behavior...blue is calming....students react differently to teachers who wear black than to those who wear bright colors...orange is often used in fast food restaurants so people will eat quickly....
What do you think about color?

Back from vacation

I'm back from vacation and the quilt show...it was so overwhelming...over 1000 quilts on display! I can't tell which was my favorite. They had a great display of red and white quilts...It is amazing what quilters can do with just two colors. My sister in law, who is not a quilter, went with me. She was quite impressed.

On the way to Columbus we stopped in Grantsville, MD. There isn't much in the town but the inn was nice...good food...and the artists' village was interesting. The highlight of the visit there was the quilt shop. I bought some fabulous fabric there. I'm not sure what I will do with it yet.

In Columbus we spent some time with my brother and his family then my other brother and his wife joined us for the weekend. Such fun. That's my brother in his home theater with Bogey and me with my little brothers!
On Tuesday, the quilt shop I visit on a regular basis, Serendipity Quilt Shop in Dagsboro, DE had a first anniversary party. There I spent the rest of my vacation money on fabric!
So back to reality now.

Finishing up...and planning ahead

I've been trying to finish up some small projects lately - little wallhangings and such - and trying to clean up my messes. Just a few more days until we are off for a week's vacation. We are going to stop off at Casselman's Inn in Grantville, MD. There is supposed to be an artists' village there and also a quilt shop! Then off to Columbus OH to visit my brother and attend the NQS Quilt Show. I won't have any time to attend classes but am really looking forward to seeing all the quilts and vendors. Anyone else going to the show?

Passing on a tradition

My granddaughter has been talking about learning to quilt for a long time. This past weekend, she came with her dad and brother for a quick visit. While the guys were out doing "guy stuff" at Lowes we had a short time to get into the sewing room. I told her that now that she is seven, I thought she could start to learn to quilt. I set my machine at slow speed and she made a four patch quilt sandwich. She listened to directions very well and sewed rather straight. We didn't have time to put any binding on but she was sure proud of herself! I told her she is ready now for a four patch lap quilt... maybe next time when they visit.

disgusted and then not

I really try to keep a good attitude so when something not so pleasant happens, I try to think of something good... My thoughts today.

I have some fabric and am ready to do a new quilt but when I tested it the colors bled so much. Fabric is in the dryer now. Hopefully it will do ok....and it was GOOD fabric too...what a disappointment. Thank goodness the pieces that bled weren't really big. I am doing a sampler quilt and the colors would have been so great. If it bleeds, I'm going to have to find some other fabric.

On a better note...had some fun with my grandson this weekend..He had such fun helping me with the bird feeders. He did a really good job of filling them and then was so excited when birds came to feed.
