bookworm

#194
I've always been a bookworm and I just love children's books. These are a few of the books I have collected over the years "for the grandchildren." Just kidding, I would have bought them anyway. I do like to cuddle up with children to read them though. It's hard to say which ones are my favorites because they each say something important. For instance, in Rueben and the Quilt, the idea of a quilt sandwich is put into children's terms. Stitchin' and Pullin' was inspired by the quilters of Gee's Bend. The Quiltmaker's Gift was given to me by a dear friend (the same one who gave me the teapot) years ago. Do you have a children's book about quilting that you think is just great? I'd love to hear your ideas.

Have you ever read Gyleen Fitzgerald's children's book called "The Dream"? If not, you may borrow mine sometime. It is very cute...storyline somewhat similar to a Wizard of Oz theme. The book includes patterns and directions for making the quilt that goes along with the story, too.

Oh, I have a favorite in my classroom, "The Quilt Story" by Tony Johnston and illustrated by Tomie DePaola. It's for the younger set,and is really a book about the comfort in things familiar. I love to share quilting with my 2nd grade class!

Some books are all over the world!
I have had the Quiltmaker`s Gift since 2000.Lovely,especial story. A couple of months later I ordered the Quilts from the Quilt makers`s Gift-book.
They`re both great ones, both the storytelling one and the other with all the patterns. However I have not made any of the quilts.... one day maybe.

I haven't heard of any of these books, yet they sound like something I should look for, for my niece who loves books, and whose mother does crazy quilting along with me. Great post!

The quiltmakers gift is the best! I was thinking or rather wondering what the mother earth and her children was like.

Glad Earl missed you/us. My brother-in-law is FEMA and he was activated for Boston, got there and was not needed. Very thankful. Meanwhile, I love the idea of collecting children's books about/on quilting. Wouldn't it be cool if you could write one? Steph
