My granddaughter has been talking about learning to quilt for a long time. This past weekend, she came with her dad and brother for a quick visit. While the guys were out doing "guy stuff" at Lowes we had a short time to get into the sewing room. I told her that now that she is seven, I thought she could start to learn to quilt. I set my machine at slow speed and she made a four patch quilt sandwich. She listened to directions very well and sewed rather straight. We didn't have time to put any binding on but she was sure proud of herself! I told her she is ready now for a four patch lap quilt... maybe next time when they visit.

GREAT job (Macy AND Nana). Maybe someday you can work with her to take her first quilted block and make a pillow with it for her to keep. I love the bright colors she chose. It will be fun to work with her on a lap quilt when she's there for a longer period of time!
How clever of her! My daughter, Annika loves to sew (hand & machine) & started at 7. She just turned 9 a couple of weeks back.
I think 7 or 6 is a good time, Katy sews a little and each time she does it for a longer period of time. How nice to be able to pass on our passion to our Grandchildren
So nice to make an early start with someone who loves her to teach her!

My granddaughter and I are sewing together these days too. She is making a quilt at my house so it's still in progress. Now that school is out she will have time to finish it up and we'll get it quilted. I love the time we spend together this way.
