new block

I've been busy the last week or so. I started going to the Y for aqua therapy for arthritis and it seems to be making me a little more limber. I'm amazed that even my hands seem to be doing better!

As for my quilting I've been working on a new block design...it took a bit of figuring but it came out the way I hoped. I have a throw top done. I'll probably hand quilt it so it will go in the pile for later but I am pleased with the way it turned out. I'd like to try it in some different colors next time now that I have the bugs worked out. I also have another block pattern floating around in my head...I love the math of block designs.....must be the math teacher in me surfacing again!

I don't enter many giveaways but I thought I would mention one that I did. GENE is celebrating his 250th blog entry...that is quite an accomplishment...so I figured I'd pass it on. His blog is always interesting to read.

yoyo directions

Kaye asked about how the yoyo quilt was made.
Here it is in a nutshell.
The circles for the yoyos are 4.5 inches.
There were 2475 yoyos put together. First in blocks of 25, then in 11 rows of 9 blocks.
I will be putting a fringe on the top after it has its backing which will use many more yoyos...will count them when I get to it!!!
I put the rows in a darker to lighter pattern so that the pillow end is very light. I have enough dark blocks left to make a pillow to put on the bed.

yoyo top

The yoyo top is done. Now to find an appropriate backing. I definitely will look for a backing! One thing I found is that the footboard on the bed catches between the yoyos ...also I saw a vintage coverlet at a show that had a backing and I liked the way it looked. An excuse (as if I need one) to go to a favorite quilt shop!!!

It has been raining and raining the last couple of days....can't wait for sunshine to brighten my mood...damped already by 9/11 memories.
